Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

You never know what God is going to do. You may think you do, but you don't.
He will bring about the result prayed for, but He will do it in a way that you could not have imagined.
There is great danger in teaching that God is predictable. Predictability is one of the deepest longings of the flesh, and it is lethal.
Today's Church wants believers to have predictable finances, predictable marriages, predictable retirements, and all the while the Lord is inviting us to the great adventure of His design - living by faith!
The Bible teaches that the Prince of Peace wants us wants us to rest secure in His being our Rock - not the insurance company being our rock. The Bible teaches us that marriage is a place to step out in faith and lay our lives down to allow Him to show Himself strong in our weakness - not learn to compromise away the opportunity for faith.
The Bible teaches that today is enough trouble for itself, and that we must not worry because we are resting in Him, not a 401K.
Of course, not a single one of these things is evil or forbidden. but we are to be available to be made into His likeness, and if He wants to collapse the bank, it is His business. If He wants to have us always give and never get from the marriage, it is His business. If He wants us to sell pencils on the corner when we thought we would be playing shuffle board in Florida, it is His business.
We are an over-planned and an under-fed, under-faithed Church.
We have settled for spoon-feeding, and it has robbed us of fuel for prayer and the adventure of the faith-walk.
Some of us saw a plaque last night that said:
"Have you read my best seller? There will be a test.
               signed,
                 God"
