Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

There isn't much in this life that is harder than living with a sour spouse.
It doesn't really matter if the person is sour about you or something else - there is anger and rebellion involved. Sourness is a deliberate expression of an ungodly emotion, and there is absolutely nothing you can do to immediately relieve the situation.
In the biblical teaching of the sovereignty of God, however, the situation is an opportunity for you to learn supernatural, unconditional love.
Tough?
Of course! The Cross is never easy.
When you live with someone who is sour, it kills human affection, and if you allow logic and reason to rule, you will not be able to function, much less minister.
So, you are in a place where you can either be repulsed, or you can put one foot forward, and then the other, in obedience to the Word of God.
In this situation you must remember to take precautions to avoid being ensnared in the net that is wound around the feet of your mate.
And remember, love is not always a feeling - sometimes it is simply the refusal to behave in a manner mirroring the other. The Lord will give you wisdom as the hours go by. Do not plan what to say or how to be, but rather look for the Lord. Listen for the Lord.
He knows all about it, and as a matter of fact, He designed it!
Even though you cannot see it, He is working in the sour one and He promised He would not let you down!
