Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

We must be always available to allow the Holy Spirit  to teach us how to pray about everything we pray about and for.
For example, when we are praying about a situation that must be resolved, we generally pray to be bailed out, and we do the same when we are praying for someone else's situation.
Right off the bat, the Lord is not in the business of bail outs. He does rescue, but He is a thorough and integretous Savior, and He is not and has never been a band-aid God.
He is preparing us for heaven, and if we allow Him to, He will teach us a wisdom in prayer that allows us to see deeper and wider dimensions of the thing about which we pray.
There is a a radio program that reads prayer requests from listeners and it goes something like this:
-pray that I will sell my house soon and that the price will be good.
-pray that my sister's husband will come back to her.
-pray that my daughter will get into the college of her choice.

All these might be right, and they might all be foolish. Each one can be interpreted as -pray that I will get what I want, or what I perceive to be the best thing.
Intellectually, we can come up with all kinds of checks and balances, but I am not interested in prayer formulas. I am interested in allowing the Lord freedom with my prayer time so that He can do things I would never dream of.
The other thing is that my goal must not be to secure changes through prayer, but rather to see and know and serve the One who is my King.
