Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

Children are little blank slates, and they will copy everything you do.
Furthermore, when you talk in front of children, they are hearing and understanding everything you are saying, even if they seem to be occupied with something else.
They will imitate your speech, mannerisms and attitudes. They will copy your activities and take on your unconscious resentments and frustrations.
The good news is, even if you are seventy years old, a right standing with God and a change in the direction of your attitudes and speech will still trickle down to your children.
If there is one godly parent in the home, that is the example the children will reflect as they get older (often around twenty-five and older) because light dispels darkness.
Live before God in front of your children. Do not live for your children or you will not be free to raise them by prayer. Live for the Lord, and Him only. Talk to your children about their speech, and why we must have the language of heaven.
If you mess up, confess, repent, and get back on track. It is the big picture that counts, and whether you know it or not, your heart can be seen in your actions and can be heard through your mouth.
There isn't much you can keep secret.
Listen to your children and do not let them argue or be insolent in any way without a consequence.
Yes, they are enjoyable and a fabulous delight, but they do not belong to you, and do not forget it. You are the one chosen to raise them, and that means you must give them up every day.
Do it in prayer, and you will be calmer, more insightful, and freer to do the right thing. If you have given your heart to Jesus you have supernatural back-up!
