There are times when serving the Lord is a matter of governing the physical body to do the next thing.
When you think about it, the work of the Lord is carried out through the obedient actions of His Soldiers. Yes, of course the thought life is critical, but it is in the saying
and the doing that the work is done.
Prayer certainly is resisted physically. Few of us feel physically like praying, and there is a discipline that only develops over the years as the body drops the fighting resistance and falls into habit. The believer must understand that the Bible teaches that our bodies don't govern us - we govern them.
Even if I am ill, I can be gracious and I can use whatever faculties are usable, to honor the Lord.
Going over to a visitor in church and loving him - that is a physically executed obedient act.
Sit straight during the preaching. Don't yawn - that is the ultimate ungoverned body - yawning during anointed preaching. Sing loudly. Embarrassed? Where in the scripture are you allowed to sing like a mouse just because you are self conscious?
If you have vocal cords, use them to the glory of God.There is no translation that says "if you have a voice to be proud of and sound like Pavaroti, sing unto the Lord".
The disciplines we need are physical. Once the mind agrees with God's Word, the body must, must, must be used beyond natural energy and inclination.
You don't have it for long - use it! Push it! Move it - for the sake of the Gospel of Christ!
