Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

I have often heard Christians say guilt is never from the Lord.
    That is not true.
There is good, old-fashioned , healthy guilt that the Holy Spirit uses to convict both the saved and the unsaved. Furthermore, guilt is far removed from condemnation, which is the enemy's lie that says all is lost and there can be no coming back.
Many unsaved have a conscience that has been seared and when the Holy Spirit comes, conviction can sweetly come in and woo the unbeliever by showing accurately how low he has fallen. This is usually framed by guilt. We call it conviction because the sinner has been found guilty - that is what the word means!
If a soldier of the Cross lies, he will feel guilty. Because he is guilty. That 's the Holy Spirit and it is a sign that something needs to change.
If a Christian lives constantly in a state of guilt, there is either unconfessed sin, or he has had some pretty terrible teaching. The conviction of the Lord leads to "a higher plain that I have found. . ." and really will plant his feet on "higher ground."
