Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

Curious that the Lord chose David.
And interesting that his first recorded words were "who is this uncircumcised Philistine, and how is it that he thinks he can challenge the armies of God?"
That tells us quite a bit about David. We are introduced to him as he emerges from being a total nobody in the world's sight, and simply continues to do what he has been doing - the job God has given and assuming responsibility for work that must be done.
Killing Goliath was just work - that's all. I'm sure it was scary, but there was not going to be anything else to experience until the giant was defeated. He had no special training and he had not been anointed when he killed the lion and the bear. He had simply done his job.
Brothers and sisters, your job is not what you think. It is not the earning of money, and it is not the pedantic things that fill the hours. Your job is to be vigilant and to step up to the line in prayer and action. David first made himself available, and nothing special appeared. He only knew he was weighed down by man's provision - the human armour which provided human protection against the enemy.
He did the thing he had done before - no big deal. It wasn't even that his aim was perfect, rather the stone was directed by God into the giant's forehead because he was available!
I desperately want to be available!
