We don't serve
the Lord because we feel like it - we serve because it is the
only right thing to do! Many years ago, E. M. Bounds said the biggest problem among Christian workers was burn-out. He went on to say that after extensive surveys, it was his conclusion that fewer than 10% of all pastors had a prayer life of any kind - even a token one. Without the freshness of God's Word each day, there can be no prayer life and without a prayer life, of course there can be no sight or energy for the battle. And that is precisely the problem today. Energy for the battle must come from sight and not from feeling and stimulation. We continue on, not because the project must be finished nor because we are tingling with love. We can begin because we are assigned, but that does not have divine press enough to cause us to finish. We go on because we have determined to be found faithful. We read. We pray. Therefore, we see. The harvest is great and the King is coming! |
