Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

When was the last time you actually thought about the Lord's  personal love for you?
We sing about it , we read about it, but His personal love doesn't seem real to most believers. Consequently most don't think of Him as a tender, attentive, deeply affected friend.
And yet, we all know the words to "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." So, why do we run to everyone but Him?
Because the old nature has an overriding spirit of independence that struggles to dominate as it did before we were saved. We know we have a choice, but at the same time, the old nature is not going to improve.
So, we come to Him with our knowledge of what the Bible says about Him, and we speak to Him about our lack of response to Him. We stand on what we know is true and acknowledge how desperately we need Him - not because we feel like it, but because it is true.
And the One who is so responsive will hear and tenderly reveal Himself. He will heal our sight and uncurl the tightly-clenched fingers so that we can finally put the burdens down.
Then we can do as the Psalmist says - pray with clean hands raised up high.
That is a picture of a Soldier of the Cross who has emptied his hands and turned in obedience to the Lover of his Soul. That is a picture of a Soldier who will know and experience the fathomless love of Him who loved us enough to rescue us before we even knew He was real!
The knocking on the door of the heart in Revelation is not to the unsaved (although it certainly does not exclude them) but rather, it is a knocking on the heart's door of the Christian.
     Someone adores you.
Someone wants to spend time with you.
A stunningly sensitive friend has an outstretched hand - there is no risk.

Jesus loves me, this I know.
For the Bible tells me so!
