"He is the Potter, I am the Clay. . ."
Isn't that the way many people pray?
While it's true that He has said "Command ye me the works of my hands. . ." it is a learning experience to listen to a mature Christian pray.
Where is the balance between asking for specifics and really expecting them, and being so squishy, nothing gets done?
It is only reasonable and right that we come before Him and understand that we really are the clay. So often we fall into a pattern of prayer that does not even acknowledge the awesomeness of our God, and assumes that He is actually quite busy, but if He is told enough about the situation, maybe He will be convinced.
Those are usually prayers that are public. Ever hear them? That kind of public prayer is usually offered by someone who does not pray in private.
When the private prayer life begins to develop and the Soldier of the Cross stands in the middle of a room, eyes closed in concentration, hands empty, praying outloud to the King of Glory, things fall into place.
There is a very real sense of standing before Him and having a real audience with the One who hung the stars in place.
There is no question - one thing consistent with a regular private prayer life, is a supernatural seeing of the helplessness of the "clay", contrasted against the Potter Who is most able!
