Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

Wisdom doesn't come from teaching alone.
The capacity to choose right often comes from having done stupid things, and suffered because of it.  Often I have met Soldiers who have seen the value of integrity due to their own "Before Christ" histories of dishonesty and sliminess.
Many become bitter when hurt, but the capacity to be truly tender and understanding does not exist without the believer having been dealt some devastating blows.
The point is, once we give our lives to Christ, we are not entitled to a streamlined mistake-free future. We seem to expect that praying for the Lord's will to be shown will guarantee the end of anything that might be interpreted as failure or error.
On the other hand, we pray for wisdom. We tell the Lord He can do anything with our lives. So do we really want Him to make everything fit easily and send off flares here and there to show us where only the painless choices are kept?
Of course not. The flesh has a pretty nasty response to discomfort - that's why it's called discomfort! But the indwelling Holy Spirit bears witness to us that His way is one of preparing us to dwell with Him eternally, and He is producing His own life in us.
Soldier of the Cross, decide to desperately, desperately long to have Him change you!
