"When the Trumpet of the Lord Shall Sound,
And Time Shall Be No More. . ."
The more we get to know the Lord, the closer that Day seems!  We must not live like those who are not ready for His coming, but we so often do, don't we?
We must build our lives around eternity, and there is a great test for that! The relevant question is, "Might I see the fruit of this in eternity?"
For example, it always bothers me when I see Christians afraid to be without a "nest egg" because they fear lack of provision. The fruit of that nest egg will not be seen in heaven and what is worse, the motive for its accumulation and storage is a lack of trust.
But if for example, someone has a sum of money and it is invested so that retired missionaries can be supported by the interest from the principal, that fruit will be seen in heaven and the money has already been given up.
We send our children to colleges to train them to have the same kinds of lives that the children of the world will have. Tragic!
On the other hand, of the five men martyred in Ecuador some years ago, there were several advanced degrees from well-known universities. The motive was to prepare to serve, and that without glory.
We could go on and on, and each person stands alone before the Lord to account for his life, but I must say this - we must not loose sight of the fact that we are pilgrims and sojourners in an alien land, and we must not accumulate baggage because time is short, and eternity is without length!
