The Bible says "mourn with those who mourn. . ." and in context, the passage means there is a flow into which a friend will step.

When someone  is really grieving, do not try to tell him about all the things that should make him joyful. The Lord allows loss, and grieving is not wrong. It is different than anger over not having one's way - it is the result of something precious being severed.
The Holy Spirit is known as the Comforter, and He comforts quietly. He doesn't bring distraction, He brings sweetness and reality. He makes the time effective, and He divinely prods when the season is over.
A quiet spirit is a beautiful asset to the Soldier of the Cross who would minister at times of loss. Understanding is simply the ability to see what will cripple and what will give strength, and only the Christian who is filled with the Comforter, can impart real comfort!
