The Lord is
neither brief nor long-winded. He is efficient. If He says something dozens of times, it is because we need to hear it over and over. Conversely if He says something only once, we only need to hear it once. One of the reasons we need Him so, is because He alone knows what is efficient for each situation and person. We tend to fall into patterns, and the only pattern God has is that of avoiding patterns! Love is not a pattern. Love fills the need rather than anesthetizing the anxiety. Love goes to the real issues rather than the things we think are the issues. Love goes to the heart of the matter, doing all that is needed to prepare us for eternity. All these statements add up to tell us that we must remain flexible and dependent. We tend to rely on experience, sight, and knowledge. He deals in an economy vastly more efficient than ours. Love opens His arms to bring us in - we can lean on the Everlasting Arms, and we are under His wings! The older I get, the greater the realization that I don't know very much. But I am learning more and more clearly that He is able, and I am not! |
