"We
have an anchor that keeps the soul Steadfast and sure while the billows roll. . ." In order to prepare for heaven, there must be trials here. We don't understand it all, but we have been told in no uncertain terms that the world would hate us and that we simply may not live in the manner of the unredeemed. So, not only are we learning how to live, but we are doing so in the midst of howling storms and strange events. But we have a Rock - The Rock of Ages - Who keeps us stable and wants us to learn to be steadfast and sure in Him all the time. If there weren't storms, we would not know stable living in the calm because there would be nothing to bring forward the need to depend on Him. It is critical that the Soldier of the Cross take seriously the verses about identifying with His sufferings. We must understand that while we are not to seek out trials and suffering, (life will bring enough!) we are not to seek out escape from hardship. We are to seek Him. We are not to seek self-protection, nor the preservation of our strength. We are to seek Him. We are not to seek service. We are to seek Him. |
