Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

Those who have their eyes on heaven's goals do not long to see their children have many worldy things.
Parents without Christ try to make it possible for their children to "get ahead", but those who know what things are of eternal value will never press to give their children great worldy advantage.
The Church has created an atmosphere of counterfeit life today - that is, following the pattern of the world, but slapping Christian terms and pedigrees on goals and activities.
More often than not, even Christian parents are the most comfortable when their children are well-liked, conform to standards that have been set by the parents and parents' peers, and like it when the aging children appear to be headed toward a steady income-earning and predictable situation. I remember a Christian in Spain boasting to me that his girls were the best dressed in Madrid and that they lived as well as anyone in the Church.
But if even one parent is a Soldier of the Cross, children can watch and see that physical advantages mean little and a place in the world means less than nothing. How rare it is that a child is raised to serve with abandon.
But oh, how rich is the heart of that father or mother who gives up the child to the Lord each day and can pray the prayer of Hannah honestly. That parent will find consistency easier and will eagerly intervene against the lust of the eyes and faddish nonsense which assaults children daily.
Our children don't need to have us get the best for them, they need us to be the best for them and to train them to look away from all that would distract, unto the One who can give them what can never deteriorate or be taken away.
