If the Lord's correction is so valuable, why do we resist it so much?
Because it means death to the flesh. Let's face it; our Father does not correct for recreation, but He chastens us when we are headed in the wrong direction.
Why is it so important to correct children? So they can have sight and make wise choices.
It is the same with us. The problem lies in pride. To receive correction, one must admit he was not right in the first place.
Psychology has taught us to come up with a reason for the things we do. But the Bible says it is just plain wrong. And the Lord will chasten His own because He cares about our sight and wise choices. He also wants our companionship, and He cannot be at one with fault.
What a release it is to tell the Lord in prayer you were wrong and you are sorry. Do you trust Him enough to welcome His correction and to abandon the constant squawking about whose fault everything is?
Maybe you were dropped on your head when you were little and wolves raised you. So what? It doesn't matter. It is interesting, but it doesn't change the facts, and that is what the Lord is interested in.
One of the things I desperately want to learn is to eagerly accept criticism from the Lord and to spend all I have to respond.
I want less of me and more of Him!
