Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

When you live with a difficult person. it is easy to think your life is hard.
But the real truth is, the Lord has provided you with a gracious working of His Life in you, and without that opportunity to minister grace, you would not have the opportunity to be healed!
What do I mean by that?
If you are a Soldier of the Cross, and a real jerk upsets you, you must rush to the Lord and beg to be taught and changed so that you are not upset again.
You can recognize what is happening, but you have no sight or equilibrium if you are upset. A basket that has tipped over and spilled its contents is upset.
How can a battle be fought by Soldiers who are examining their own wounds and concentrating on how they are not as bad as the other side? What would happen in any battle if the ranks were involved in poutings and fantasy of vindication?
     Worse than nothing.
The battle is won by following the Commander and obeying.
A distressing situation may not call for balloons and confetti, but neither does it justify preoccupation and slow, hidden seething. If I am the Lord's and He is mine, I must be like Him. I must press to learn grace. I must seek to serve rather than be right.
These things do not come automatically when the sun rises, but they come over years and through prayer.
The next time you are chasing your tail in your mind because the difficult person is doing the same thing for the ten-millionth time, go into the bathroom. Lock the door. State the truth:
I am a Soldier of the Cross.
      I have no rights.
I have stepped over the line into service because it is what I want.
Right now I am sinning because I am upset, frustrated, and want to change the other person in a way God would never change him.
I must repent and be available to allow the Holy Spirit to minister through my faculties.
I am small, He is great, and He is still in control!
