Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

Our God is thoroughly consistent and He wants to build his own Life with that same quality of consistency in the Soldier of the Cross.
What so often happens is, the believer finds himself doing many things to set about making himself like the Lord. And of course, that is not possible.
Yes, we have affirmative duties and actions and we must build a devotional life, but we can't change ourselves.
We can and must learn to obey without question and we must also learn to confess sin and press into the wind of cleansing. But the old nature will never change or improve. It might get a little smarter, but only in the sense of feeding the flesh!
One of the first things a Soldier must learn in order to be more like Jesus is restraint. Restraint of the mouth, mind, and body.
And there is no staying power on that journey without the Holy Spirit.
There is no Holy Spirit without submission.
There is no submission without prayer.
There is no prayer without the fuel of God's Word.
It is a terrible idea to self-evaluate too much. If the Lord wants to convict of sin, He is able. While it is precious and necessary to have a time each day to ask for divine light that might point out things to be shed, it is entirely another matter to take one's own standard and begin to carve out goals for the spiritual life.
Only the Lord is perfect. We are to gaze upon Him, follow after Him, and the Word of God is to be in our mouths all the time.
There is little in the Bible about glamour and fashion, yet most Christian women spend far more time thinking about their thighs than the lost.
On the other hand, many believing men struggle with lust and the thoughts seep in and marinate the days and months.
We are not allowed. Not at all. We may have all kinds of frailties, but the consistent Soldier is the one who trips and falls, and rushes to get up again to run after the Master.
That Soldier is much too occupied with the One he is following to be reading and counting his own badges all the time.
That Soldier will be seen doing the same thing whenever anyone is looking- gazing and following. Reaching out, rescuing, admonishing, and then on to the next thing.
A place must be made in the life for holiness, and it comes as the Soldier takes in the Word and tastes the power of choice brought through the new birth.
     Oh, to be like Him!
