Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

Human enthusiasm makes for a passive spirit.
When the church service is one that emphasizes feeling over obedience, the sheep are without defense.
Don't misunderstand; there are certainly times when God can be felt , but those experiences are not a standard.
Today, we have a generation of Christian couch potatoes. They listen to tapes, see "Christian videos, and watch Christian TV. Where is the depth?
     It is hard to find.
Yes, we need encouraging. We need it each day, and we need each other. But the only way a Soldier of the Cross can be encouraged is by a Word from the Lord - a look into the eyes of another Soldier who finds nothing desirable but the Master, or perhaps someone has a verse brought fresh from the Holy Spirit.
Have you noticed how much easier it is to turn on the radio than to pray?
That is because the soul itches for stimulation and the old man desperately wants to avoid that moment of private confrontation. Why is that?
Because in the moment, all things of time end in Christ. The Soldier must plead the Blood, confess sin, and look away from all that would distract. He must avow again to take up the Cross and follow.
Are you a Soldier? Are you a would-be Soldier?
Fine. Decide right now that your life is to be measured by what you say in prayer. After all, those are the times when you are pressing into the things that are most important.
Be sure to pray outloud. You will find your words are carefully chosen.
Soldier, learn to press on. Do it in prayer. Do it with regularity and do not wait to feel like praying. In a few short days, you will be standing before Him in the believers' judgment.
Wouldn't you love to hear Him say "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!"
