Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

What does it mean to be content?
Contentment certainly is not related to passivity, but for some, that is the only image that comes to mind - that of a Christian, blanketed by a fog of numbness and without the capacity to object to anything.
The fact is, for the Soldier of the Cross,  contentment is active. It is the result of agreeing with God and acknowledging that He has spoken the truth.
This quality of agreement is rooted in choice and vigilance.
There is not one word in any of Paul's epistles that indicates discontent. He does not claim to love being a prisoner, or being unfairly accused and enduring extreme conditions of unpleasantness. We would all agree that he is clearly content and that is the only reason he is free to minister to the churches in those letters.
Does the Lord have you in an awkward place today?  If so, He really meant it when He said He would hide you in the Cleft of the Rock.
Let it go, and move keenly into reality.
     His promises are reality.
     His presence is reality
     His Body is reality.
Pick up the Sword and press in!
