In a few days I will be in
Siberia. It is a little colder than Maine, and the language is
not as familiar to me as English. The last time I was there,
I had a rather serious eye infection, and my wallet was stolen
on the bus. Why would I stay home? Would it be to make sure my wallet is not stolen? Perhaps I could be twenty or thirty degrees warmer. If the phone rings at home, I know all the verb tenses, and I don't have to think of case endings. Maine has lots of coffee. The need is in Siberia, and I cannot by staying home add one tiny molecule of security to my life. That is an illusion. It is an illusion of the world. God is doing a work on the other side of the globe, and I am needed for two and a half days. Time is short - it is eternity that is long! |
