Will I be making any New
Year's resolutions? No. There are always times to take personal inventory, but they should be times of examining the extent of willingness to obey the Word of God and be led of the Spirit. It seems harmless enough to make such resolutions, but they are always of human origin and in response to what we think we should be or do. That is fine for the world - those without Christ. But for the believer, it is contrary to everything in God's Word if I come up with good things to do or bad things to quit doing, and then appoint a time to begin or cease the action. I am frequently accused of being too stiff about such things, but it seems to me to be the other way around. Today, Christians are much too quick to use slang, dress cheaply and let their time be sucked up in exactly the same ways as those who are without Christ. Let us be responsive now. Let us be obedient now. Let us repent now. Let us love now. He may catch us up in the air to meet Him before New Year's eve! |
