Have you ever stopped
to consider why God recorded the less than perfect words and
actions of some of the heroes of the faith? I think it is because
it is so hard to understand that it is not our perfection that
heaven applauds, but out obedience.
Take Peter for example. I've heard
more preachers trash poor Peter. It seems to me that he was like
so many of us are; well-intended, but when the rubber hits the
road, we look for cover.
We must learn to follow
the Lord, and we must learn to obey. Of course Peter
knew better than to deny the Lord, or he wouldn't have "wept
bitterly" when the he heard the cock. The example of Peter's
life is exquisite, and he was transformed into a stalwart
leader of the church and was willingly martyred.
The Lord wants servants who cannot
be moved by the enemy, yet are pliable in His.hands and are eager
to either wait or move. He wants servants who are not interested
in "self-improvement", but crave that "He must
increase, but I must decrease."
We do not become like Him just
by hearing and agreeing, but by being exercised and tested
in the things that we yearn for the most deeply.
