Do not review
the moment too much. We are to consider the things God has done, we are to consider the pit from which we were dug, and we are to consider our responsibility in obeying the Law of God. But we are absolutely not to consider our own shortcomings (unless brought up by the Holy spirit in a time of confession) or review over and over either a sweet success or a devastating defeat. Nor are we to be caught in the trap of thinking about the in-between things almost all the time. The Lord is clear concerning the thoughts of man, and they are not to move in the direction of self- control. Constant kneading a past situation is an insane form of control - the ultimate ineffective effort- but an attempt, nevertheless. Thoughts that grasp at the measure of a man's spiritual stature in the eyes of others are the same - insane and also stupid. We are to think on things that are above and that eliminates almost all thought of every living human being. We should be different because of obedience, not because of exemption from trials and feelings of self-consciousness and frustrating failure. Get up. Shake off. Move on. |
