The
wise men did not worship Jesus because they recognized the little baby in
the lowley manger. As a matter of fact, when they first saw the star there is a good chance they expected to find there had been the birth of an obvious king/ruller/conqueror. Instead they found a helpless infant whose parents were in a difficult situation. But they worshipped him anyway. Why? Because they saw His star, and because they put their weight on the thing they knew was true, they were prepared to worship the baby. That was a great example of going by faith rather than by sight. The local people where Jesus grew up, on the other hand, could not believe He was the Son of God because they had watched Him grow up. Consequently, He was not able to do even one work of power in that area. These three recognized God and began to respond - then they were prepared for what was to follow. No wonder they have been immortalized as "wisemen". |
