Human passion
is a great distraction to the cause of Christ. Passion is simply strong feeling. It feels compelling, it feels like it originates in us, and it demands a resolution. The Bible makes it all clear. We do feel these things. There is no avoiding it - but the consequences of gratifying the passions are death, because by their very nature, unredeemed feelings defy the Holy Spirit. This is one of the reasons it is so important to identify where something is coming from. Is the Holy Spirit speaking? Does it line up with the Word of God? Is a believer being maligned? Listen to me: You must make the decision to follow Christ, and when the feelings don't match, you must go on anyway. I know stalwart believers who have been through periods of being intensively attracted to someone other than their spouse and they have been able to ride it through without disobedience because they have understood that the enemy can produce and project a feeling that feels real and feels like it must have resolution. It is a lie. Consider God's Word. What does it say? There is a standard, and it is a person. Examine Him. Tell Him. Rely on Him. I promise you, He will not let you down. |
