Only in heaven
will there be an absence of sorrow and illness. There are those who teach Christians that this life can hold a happy experience all the time, and in an always healthy body. It simply isn't true. And that is the significance of the famous verse that makes us the wonderful promise about heaven. In this life, believers will know a great deal of heartache, and although with many it is self-imposed, often the most faithful warriors are betrayed by others and watch fellow soldiers slip into sin. Those are painful, painful times. And the worst thing you can do for your brother when he is hurting is to be flippant and shove a Christian truism at him. He needs the Holy Spirit to speak to him, and he needs to be encouraged. What the Lord allows in a human life span, is the privilege of learning to discern what sorrow is from sin, and what is godly grieving. The point of life is to be a living sacrifice, not to seek a physical or emotional utopia. If we seek Jesus, we will find the balance. |
