We are walking
file cabinets, containing al the experiences we have ever had. But the Lord would like to teach us to move out of our experience, into the frontier of faith before us. If you go into a Christian bookstore today, there are shelves full of books that tell the believer there are things he can do to fix his marriage, keep his money under control, and generally be on top of things. Such is not the calling of a Soldier of the Cross! My Bible says that I am expected to be a living sacrifice - at least it is my "reasonable service". That means that my marriage is not an institution in which to seek happiness, but an opportunity to reveal grace, and learn submission and humility - not too popular today. My Bible says all my money belongs to the Lord, and if I give him all that I have, he will bless it, break it, and feed the multitudes. My Bible says that I can't find my life by finding it - I must lose it in order to find it. My experience is just that - experience. It isn't useless, but I may not live in its confines. The call of a walk by faith demands a moving out from the secure bounds of evaluating and choosing the logical, reasonable thing. The Cross was not logical or reasonable. It was God's Plan. It had never been done, and it won't be again. That's how the Lord is - He wants to be followed, not out-guessed! |
