As we get older, genuine vigor does not come from the healthy condition of the body - it comes from endurance through choice. That's a tough concept for most, and only attractive to a few. When we choose the things that are eternal and when we choose to serve others instead of ourselves, our lives are not filled with compromise. Compromise is exhausting whereas submission in the Holy Spirit brings divine energy. There is energy to do what is right, and the believer is allowed to see beyond the immediate because of obedience. I am a firm believer in exercise, and most of my adult life I have been a vigorous walker. But the energy that God brings is in response to a heavenly vision, and its source is supernatural. If the Christian has burnout, he doesn't need a vacation - he needs to see again. |
