On a hill far away stood an
old rugged cross. . . . . . Its shame and reproach gladly bear. . . Woops! We'd better rewrite! Did you mean it? Its shame and reproach gladly bear? "Any man who wants to be my disciple must take up his cross daily and follow me." We must remember that while the cross represents heavenly glory and victory, it is a symbol of earthly disgrace and unfairness. Things have not changed. If I am a soldier of the cross, I must have the habit of coming to Him at each turn, and telling Him that I will "its shame and reproach gladly bear." There is little more healing and sweet than telling my Lord that I am willing to suffer. It puts things in perspective. It brings the heavenly salve that the Holy Spirit ministers. The key word is "gladly." |
