There is nothing
quite like chronic physical pain. It is totally different from
emotional pain in that distraction cannot bring relief.
I don't know this from experience,
but from the testimony of those who have suffered much. Some
of the things that are soothing are temperature change, and music,
but there comes a point where only supernatural vision can allow
the sufferer to take ahold of God's purpose - and that by faith.
If you know a brother or
sister in constant pain, a terrific book is Amy Carmichael's
"A Rose from Briar." It is splendidly written and issues
Holy Spirit comfort.
It is critical that every
Christian commit his body and faculties to the Lord daily. Some
of us who don't suffer in that way now, will someday. And if
that time should come, we must be willing to give the Lord those
hours in the same way that we pray to give Him the hours that
we think are useful.
It isn't that He needs us
healthy and without pain, it is just that He needs us available.
