I was disturbed
today to hear part of a Christian radio program about the "good
old days."
Of course there isn't anything
wrong with reviewing the pit from which I was rescued (Psalmist)
or in appreciating the things God has done in my past - the Ebeneezer
stones.
There sure is something
wrong with reviewing how great things were, and how bad they
are now. That is, it's wrong for the Christian. The program
was not reviewing the years gone by except to bewail the loss
of tranquility, low prices and simplicity.
There was a nostalgic brooding,
and the whole segment sighed with desire for the things seen
in the past.
For us, that attitude
is not an option. We are soldiers of the cross, and it is not
our job to howl and carry on about the great leeks and meat we
ate in Egypt while we declare a negative assessment of the state
of the world today.
God has not lost control,
and as a matter of fact things are right on schedule.
Don't look back and don't look
down (a saying I stole from my secretary.)
The issue is not wishing
we could restore times gone by - the issue is that Jesus is coming
to catch His own up in the air, and there is a lost world
to be won.
