Countless Christians assemble together once
or more each week and hear again and again from the Lord
about how they ought to live. The Lord speaks to them about hearing His call. The Lord speaks to them about tithing. The Lord speaks to them about the diligent taking in of His Word. The Lord speaks to them about heaven's beckoning to be a living sacrifice. But many, many of these believers pass through the doors out into the already embraced templates of living, and never actually present themselves to the Lord concerning any of these things. It is not the thought that counts. It is the availability of the heart and faculties of the servant that count. We must be careful that we don't seek stimulation for its own sake, but that when we come together to hear the Lord we are willing to obey Him. Believers who present themselves for stimulation only, become arrogant know-it-alls who are actually numb to the voice of God. Our Lord has never played around with man. He has never teased him, and He doesn't speak through men or donkeys just for entertainment. Every Word is serious business - and if it is real, so is the Spoken Word. Most of us are not "all talk and no show", but we are "all listen and no show". Lord, I tremble to think of all you have told me that I have not done. I repent right now, and ask you to do whatever it is that needs to be done in me to bring about your likeness. I am lazy and shortsighted, but you have promised me the leading and empowering of the Holy Spirit. Teach me to trust. Teach me to go. Teach me to give. Teach me to obey - to really obey. |
