Seems to me that discouragement
is something felt, but is an emotional element that does not
need to impair. In the first chapter of Joshua, the Lord says clearly that the Israelites should not be discouraged. He says it several times. And He elaborates. One of the specifics He gives is that they should be continuously speaking the Word of God! Discouragement is so-o common, and though it is the reason for much low-grade suffering, it is seldom admitted. The reason we are not to be discouraged is not because we have to feel like victors, but because we can not allow a subtraction from our courage. That is what discouragement is. Those who exercise courage are not those who feel brave, but they are the ones who do with bravado the things that the Bible says, even when they feel like road kill. We conclude that if we proceed, God will honor it. We conclude that obedience is the antidote for discouragement. We have bodies and we have a will. We move and function in thought and deed according to the Word of God, and there can be no exceptions! |
