There
is nothing very good about being nice. The opposite of nasty is not nice. When someone says "I didn't do so-and-so because I wanted to be nice", they usually mean that they didn't have the backbone to do the right thing because they wanted the person to like them, In other cases, it is simply a fear of the result of doing the thing that ought to be done - so instead, they are just nice. Judas was nice. He betrayed Jesus by giving Him a nice kiss. The enemy can be really nice. Politicians are usually nice. Those who give up their lives and suffer abuse for the Name and cause of Christ and go uncomplainingly through persecution are seldom described as nice. They are described as loving, firm, deep, tender, merciful, compassionate, and uncompromising. |
