His best is
not the same as our best. That is why the believer's life must be about submission instead of standards. The most vivid human imagination, the most complete list of accomplishments, the widest sphere of influence - none of these things complete heaven's agenda. God's Word says that He can be trusted for our certain good. We think we know what that means, but the truth is, we don't. We do, however know from moment to moment how to obey each thing before us. Our lives are second-by-second accumulations of choices, and there is no puzzle for the Christian. He may wonder about many things - most of which is the entertaining of thoughts shot into the mind by the enemy. But when the moment comes to act, there is not one thing in all of existence that the servant of the Lord must wonder about. The Lord has promised that He would not leave us in the dark, but most Christians are so busy finger-painting with eyes slammed shut, that they miss the light and guidance of the Master. Many of the saints in the Hebrews 11 "Hall of Fame" are unnamed. And many of those who are named suffered remarkable indignities. Are you willing to let the Lord call the shots? Or do you need some constant assurance that you are making a mark? It is an important question. Remember that the Crucifixion was public and the Resurrection was private- humanly, that is. I am sure in heaven, they were both celebrated with breathless awe. |
