- If a man has no ears
to hear, screaming true statements at him for hours or even years
will do no good.
Prayer goes before the words and
opens the ears. Then, more prayer opens the heart. After that,
more prayer opens the eyes.
There is much too much preaching
at the unsaved instead of allowing God to speak through love.
We are told to speak in season
and out of season - that means that we open our mouths and allow
God to fill them whether the listener is willing and ready, or
is in the middle of burying us alive.
This precious passage does not
refer to the unloving, superior attempt to gain an agreement
by verbal coercion.
I have shared Christ with many people
on trains, in airports and on planes and believe me - they often did
not enjoy the conversation. But we are NOT trying to get people
to adopt a belief. We are leading them to a person. And the individual
who gets a canned shtick or a turn-or-burn message will either be a
numb convert or a burned rebel.
The Holy Spirit fills the
mouth of the one who is constantly in the word, and who is humbled
daily in prayer. Otherwise there is no love.
Must we share?
- Yes. There is no meeting Christ
without hearing of Him. But our purpose is to talk of Him.
You can not answer the questions of the blind when the answers
can only be understood by the sighted. The Holy Spirit alone
can answer. And He will never speak through a preachy spirit
- only a humble one who is willing to point the hearer to
the Lover of his Soul.
