- A fire does
not come into the heart of a believer through passivity.
Nor does it come by war dances
and loud howling! It comes by the power of the Holy spirit, and
the heart rarely goes from stone cold one minute to blue-hot
the next.
When the Word of God tells us to
"be aglow with the Spirit and burning with zeal", we
are hearing about something that is supernatural, and something
that is not cheap.
It comes at a cost.
When we make the choice to follow the
Lord, we begin to realign our motives, priorities, and our use
of time. Since we know we must attend to those who are in need,
that is one of the first things to set about doing in order to
obey the One Who we so want to inhabit us.
When we tell the Lord we want Holy
Spirit zeal, we are saying we want Him. We are telling Him that
we will make room.
He is the One Who healed the sick
and comforted the brokenhearted. He is the One Who fed the multitude.
He is the One Who taught unflaggingly.
He will still do that today - through
you.
Obedience puts the body and faculties
into motion. If you want the fire of God, He will lead you to
one unglamorous thing after another, and you will find yourself
impassioned - not through your own doing, but because of Grace,
and Love.
