"I
am resolved no longer to linger.
Charmed by the world's
delight.
Things that are higher,
things that are nobler,
These have allured
my sight. . . "
It
is a beautiful and freeing thing for the Christian to hold more
dear the things of heaven and eternity than he holds the resolution
of today's problem.
It is also unusual.
We give thought to and agreement
with the things that God says about this, but we almost always
put our weight down on the here and now.
When I was first converted, I went
to a meeting where a pastor's wife huffed in, obviously under
great duress. She flounced down on the couch, and mumbled "though
I give my body to be burned. ."
Even though she clearly missed
the meaning and context of the passage, she was missing a lot
more. I could see that she was angry and had no intention of
giving up that right.
Brothers, we have no rights.
Sisters, we have no rights.
We have treasures and we
have grace.
But we have no rights. And until
we seek out the sweetness of that, we have no freedom.
The believer whose attention
has really been caught eternal beauty is on his way to living
in actual release! |
