Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

For so many, the relationship with the Lord is a struggle for power.
How many times have I heard a young person say he is seeking God's will, when in fact, what he really wants is to make sure he knows ahead of time that there will be no unpleasantness to the chosen course!
     That is a power struggle
We don't mean to be deliberately choosing our own way, but we inherently do the thing and go the way of whomever we allow to lead us.
That is one reason it is so important to read the writing of the heroes of the faith, and to read accounts others have written about them.
We must be influenced by those who have chosen to be filled with His power, and emptied of their own.
When we focus on those who are focusing on Him, it stirs us to focus on Him. It isn't true that reading Hudson Taylor's story will end with admiring Hudson Taylor. Rather, it will point to Jesus, because Hudson Taylor has nothing else to say, and he chose such a path of abandonment, you will not be able to read the whole thing unless you are at least a little attracted to the same One who attracted Taylor.
Even though we try not to receive it, we are constantly influenced by sociological struggles for power and rights. It is the human saga, and we are not allowed to participate.
Furthermore, the Lord is not there.
He is not making us autonomous and independent so we can die emancipated, but He is setting us free, putting us in a large place, and preparing us for heaven!
