If you are hoping
the Lord will fix you, forget it. This life will not find anyone fixed. We should, however, want to be changed. That means that we will be in the constant state of eagerness to move on and be more and more like Jesus. As we grow older, change becomes less appealing, and it almost seems like time comes with a giant magnet that pulls us more firmly away from things we might consider if there were more energy. But God is in the business of transformation, and age is no barrier - unavailability is a barrier. In the Amplified bible, the psalmist says that godly old people are a "monument to the faithfulness of God" and that they bend like palm trees in the storm, but are also like the cedars of Lebanon. That means solid, immovable, incorruptible, and flexible. That is a combination only possible when the Lord is invited to make His likeness in us as we grow old. Year by year. Day by day. Hour by hour. Lord, I am determined to let you have my time on this earth. Please, teach me how to pray about this. Teach me to be available to heavenly change and to receive humbly all things you are so gracious to give. I know I cannot change myself, so I beg you to do whatever can be done with my days on earth, and I know that means deep and ongoing change. I trust you to do whatever surgery is needed. |
