Our first reations
to many things is the declaration of our own loss or gain. But this is not how things are evaluated by the Lord. He stands by His Word, and He has even let us know that there is a protection in declaring what the Bible says about everything. How does this affect me? How will I recover? What will happen to me? What will people think? How can I. . . . The mind of the flesh is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit, we are told in Romans 8. So often the home is the place where offenses take place on all levels, and the flesh never stops trying to protect itself. But the One who gave His life a ransom for many wants to make the place under your feet a place where the Lord is in control. That means you must declare only the things that line up with the Word of God. You may not preach at your husband, but you may encourage him. If he is not a Christian, don't try to teach him to behave as a believer. Just live in front of him. While we are learning to let Him pour out his life through us, we must at the same time learn to relinquish the tendency to control what happens to us. We live an hour at a time, and the Lord will settle the dust and deal with the residue. He has never left it up to anyone yet, and He is not about to start now. |
