We don't have
to have all the things that make life seem normal to us. For example, when I am traveling in a land where there is no running water, I find that I do quite well without a shower. Diet Pepsi addict that I am, I find myself to be perfectly content with what ever is available in Africa or China. If I went all the way down the list, I would come to the things that I unthinkingly assume I must have to be civilized - a bed, shoes, a toothbrush, toilet paper. And yet, I have been without all these things, and here I am today! I have been without food and water, and have also been without a plan or money in the middle of danger. I have been without acquaintances, and have been without possibility of communication. And all the time, I have found God to be able. That is, able to do anything with anything, or without it. If the verse really means anything, and I am to take the Lord at His word, I am dead to the world and alive unto Christ in areas of necessity as well as areas of luxury. This is the statement that divides the mice from the men. The bottom line is, are you willing to let God be God and have your body and your faculties, as in Romans 12:1? Can He say about you as He did about Job: "Have you seen my servant_______?" |
