There is an
interesting verse in Judges that says God left some enemies in
the land so that the newest generation of Israelites would learn
to fight as their fathers had. That is no small statement. It means that it is important to learn to fight and not to always try to pray our way off the battlefield. The fight is waiting. The fight is leaning. The fight is loving and showing grace. The fight means saying no, even when we desperately want approval. The fight means driving the enemy out - not just causing them to be servants (as the Israelites did). The battle is always in the mind, even when there is illness and death. That is where the fighting is. We have every provision and the Lord of Hosts is our Commander - but learn we must. And there does not seem to be a shortcut. All those who would be disciples must learn to fight! Onward Christian Soldiers! |
