Just because
someone believes heartily, he doesn't necessarily have faith.
Faith is the willingness to move
out and put our weight on the spot that will clearly not hold
us. We do it because God has said, and for no other reason.
I often hear comments about someone's
faith, but what the comments really mean iare that the person
is absolutely positive he is right about a particular fact, and
that he is also dogmatic about all the angles that apply.
I have known many well-schooled
theologians and preachers, and few of them had much faith.
Faith will take a man where he
looks foolish because he has defied logic and is walking
into certain failure (humanly), and the more trained a person
is, the less likely he is to deviate from the already tried and
true historical patterns.
That is, unless he has been trained
by the Lover of his Soul, in which case, the Soldier of the Cross
will always be at odds with those around who must have at least
a smidgen of security before moving.
When the rubber hits the road,
belief isn't worth much unless it is the belief that now that
we have stepped off the cliff, He is right below to catch us!
