The Lord has
set His priorities, and when it comes to His children, He wants
obedience first. Oh, how it hurts the flesh! The flesh doesn't mind compliance if it agrees with the outcome, but compliance is a far cry from obedience. Obedience means I may not evaluate the reason, outcome, or wait to be equipped before moving to obey. It means unquestioning, immediate motion that intends to find its completion in the doing of the thing requested. And after all, it is the request of Our Sovereign Lord. No wonder He said if we would be His disciples we would have to take up the Cross daily and follow Him - the death of the flesh and the obedience of following Him can't happen independent of each other. |
