When I am
angry, irritated, impatient, afraid, I know I am wrong. Those are emotions and they are contrary to the way the Word of God says a believer ought to live. But when I am praying and I experience an intensity in desire to see someone saved or to support a worker who has stepped out in faith, or there is a need that must be filled to continue the Work and the prayer is intense, I know for sure it is the Holy Spirit. The work of the Lord is only done by prayer. This seems to be a little known fact in the church today, nevertheless, it is true. My feelings do not need to line up with the request. That is, I may feel tired, I may feel resistant, and I may feel as though I am swimming in peanut butter. But those feelings do not have to interfere with prayer. It is a matter of physical discipline. At those times, I am not in sin, but rather, there is probably an attack going on that is intended to keep me from prayer. On the other hand, when I am experiencing the emotions that are not right, I don't need to analyze. If I have been harboring them, they must go. If the enemy has just shot them at me, they must go. Even if they are humanly justified, they must go. We only have a few short days. Let's spend them praying wisely and let's allow the Holy Spirit the freedom to convict and let's move on! |
