Waiting must
be very, very good for us!
There is no security like that
of knowing the Lord will do what He said, and that is
only experienced by the wait.
That is why there are so many verses
about waiting for and expecting the Lord. It is a spiritual skill
and must be developed. And because we are so weak and unable
to transform ourselves, He often does the deepest work by teaching
us to wait.
Consider the phrase "wait
on the Lord." We hear it much, but when the actual waiting
time comes, there is a desperate urge, almost like an irresistible
itch, to come up with alternate plans and possibilities that
can be investigated "in the meantime."
But time is a dimension especially
designed for us, and it is a dimension to allow choice and to
reveal Jesus.
He will lead the willing Soldier
into the most interesting situation - how about between the Egyptians
and the Red Sea? Nothing can be done but to look for and expect
the Lord.
Those who have gone before us were
not special, just eager to endure the test. Then during the test,
they struggled to hold the mark and chose to wait for Him. Those
are the stories that explode with power because they are about
the powerless, waiting for intervention by the One who hung the
stars.
Lord,
you know how eager I am to dash about and solve things. but I
want to be like you. Please do whatever is needed in me to make
room for your likeness. Then Lord, if waiting pleases you and
releases glory, teach me to wait on you. |
