All blessings
of the Lord come as a result of obedience. Yes, the sun shines on the just and the unjust, but there is not a verse in the Bible that offers a blessing to the disobedient. His blessings are His active endowments of spiritual riches. It always bothers me when Christians say "Yes, we are so blessed! We have a steady income and we lack for nothing." Steady incomes trickle in to the just and the unjust. There are certain laws at work that He has put in place to execute His Plan. A steady income is not a blessing. It is merely an element that is part of the running of the universe. But the blessings of the Lord! What infinite riches He longs to bestow on those who are willing to take up the Cross and follow Him! These blessings are the riches "hidden up in Christ Jesus. . ." and they have to do with Him knowing and recognizing Him. Soldier, it does not matter what is happening to you humanly. Is your body falling apart? Is there an incredible misunderstanding - such that you can't even make sense of it? The making whole of those things does not constitute the best of God's blessings. That is the great biblical heresy taught by many media personalities today. Do not look around for blessing. Look up. Examine the One who died for you. Although it is true He cares about each tiny detail of our lives, He woos us away from comfort and earthly order and toward our heavenly home and an unending and breathtaking relationship with Him. |
